The work in detail

I like it when complex work leads to a simple solution. An idea takes shape and works the way it was meant to.

A CRM for hair salons

Clients, staff schedules and salon management in one place

Project story

When a client books again, their last visit is a good place to start. For Glamour Hair Studio, I designed a CRM that keeps the service, the client’s preferences and their color formula alongside the appointment date.

The next visit starts with the last one

Suppose a client wants the shade they had last time. Their stylist needs the exact formula. I built the CRM around each client’s record and linked every treatment to a specific visit. The stylist can open the record before the appointment and see what to prepare.

The salon manager needs to see the whole team’s schedule. I gave stylists and managers separate workspaces that share the same appointments. I also built income and expense tracking into the management model so figures could later be prepared for the accountant.

What changed for Glamour

Julia runs Glamour in Málaga and is preparing to open a second salon in Madrid. She says it is now easier to look after clients. The team’s schedules and each client’s visits are in one place. When a client comes back for their usual shade, the stylist can look up the original formula.

Client review

CRM for salons

I needed a website that felt right for Glamour and a better way to manage bookings. Alexander built both the site and our salon CRM. I can now see the team’s appointments and each client’s visit history in one place. That’s a real help as we prepare to open our second salon in Madrid. I’m delighted with the result and happy to recommend him.

Glamour Hair Studio

A salon website that works with its booking system

Project story

Glamour Hair Studio’s website serves two groups. Visitors choose a stylist and a service. The salon team takes the booking and prepares for the visit. I designed both sides of that experience together.

Before the booking

I wanted first-time visitors to get a feel for the studio and find the right service. I organized the pages around their questions. Who will I see? What does the service include? How do I book? Those questions shaped the order of the sections, the photographs and the placement of the booking link.

On a phone, the next step should be within reach as soon as you have read about a service. I kept that path consistent on larger screens and across the site’s languages.

On the salon side

I designed the public site to work alongside the owner’s and stylists’ workspaces. The service names clients see are the ones the team uses to look after them. Julia singled out both sides of the result: a site that feels like Glamour and a booking process that suits the salon’s working day.

Business

An energy company

A strategy for responding to a substantial financial claim

Project story

An energy company faced a substantial financial claim backed by a large volume of documents. Management needed to decide which objections it could substantiate and what each one meant for the business.

The evidence behind each argument

I worked directly with management. They considered how the claim would affect the company. I examined the grounds for its defense. We read the documents in light of the decisions the company actually had to make.

For each objection I asked which fact the company could prove. I worked back from an argument to its supporting document, then identified the part of the claim it addressed. Gradually the company had a position it could discuss on the evidence.

What management took away

I drew the arguments into a defense strategy and set out the next steps. Management could examine each material point, check it against the file and weigh the risk before deciding how to proceed.

A digital platform

Contractor relationships and the platform’s operating model

Project story

A digital platform needed to substantiate a contractor’s status. To prepare the company’s position, I looked at what the agreements said and how the service actually worked.

What the terms mean in practice

A contract names a role and lists its duties. Understanding those terms means looking at the working relationship behind them. I compared the written arrangements with the way the contractor and the platform worked together.

Each argument then had two points of reference. The contract showed what the parties had agreed. The facts showed what that agreement meant in practice.

How the company could explain its position

I set out the reasoning on the contractor’s status and connected it to the platform’s broader defense. If someone questioned a conclusion, the team could refer to a particular clause and the circumstances in which the work took place.

Keeping business records

Documents, books and filing dates for a sole trader in Spain

Project story

Worked example

Imagine running a studio. A payment comes in. You remember what the client paid for, but the invoice is buried in your messages. A month later it will be harder to piece the two together.

Follow one transaction

Start with one payment received and one expense. Record the date, purpose and supporting document for each amount. Apply the same pattern to the other entries. If something is missing, you can see exactly what to request.

What your accountant needs

Put a date in the calendar for handing over the records and agree who will collect anything missing. Can you open the invoice from the transaction? Can you see what is ready for the accountant? These simple checks save a second search for the same documents.

From sole trader to company

Choosing a business structure and planning a move from autónomo to SL

Project story

Worked example

If you work as an autónomo in Spain and are considering an SL, a Spanish limited company, the first question is a practical one. What would change for the business you already run?

Compare the options using your own business

Take an existing contract, a typical month of expenses and your commitments to clients. For each one, consider what would change, who would be responsible and how much the new arrangement would cost to maintain. That gives you real figures to discuss with your accountant.

Keeping the business running

If you choose an SL, agree the preparation steps with the accountant, notary and others involved. List current contracts and bookings separately. You can then see what needs to be ready before the company takes on its next job.

Marketing

Glamour · Marketing

Images and editorial content for the salon’s marketing

Project story

Before a first visit, clients are already deciding whether a salon is right for them. For Glamour Hair Studio, I created a series about the things that inform that choice: the stylists, the services and aftercare.

One question per post

I grouped the subjects by what a prospective client might want to know. Choosing a stylist, understanding a treatment and looking after hair afterwards call for different kinds of explanation. Sometimes a photograph and a clear caption are enough. Sometimes a short film shows what would take a paragraph to describe.

That guided how I combined photography, graphics, copy and video. Each piece answers its own question, while the voice and visual treatment are recognizably Glamour.

Ready for launch

I prepared a visual series, short copy and videos for the launch campaign and Glamour’s subsequent posts. The pieces can introduce the studio’s work, explore a service in more depth and show where to book.

Brand identity and voice

A consistent identity across a website and social media

Project story

Worked example

Sometimes a studio’s website and its social posts barely look as though they belong together. To find a distinctive voice, take a real project and tell its story in both formats.

One project, two formats

A project page gives you room for detail and the reasons behind a decision. A short post needs one detail that makes someone want to see the whole piece. Choose a photograph and a few lines for each format and you begin to hear how the studio naturally talks about its work.

What the team can use

A brief guide can collect the examples that work. Include the style of photography, headings, captions and a few applications. A list of future topics about projects, people and process helps the next post pick up the conversation.

Changing providers

Bringing the website, domain and assets under the owner’s control

Project story

Worked example

A website can look exactly the same after a change of provider. The real test is what the owner can do. Can you renew the domain yourself and give the next provider access?

Who controls access?

List the domain, hosting, source files and other assets separately. For each, record the account owner, where the material is kept and how access can be recovered. The list makes clear what the outgoing provider still needs to do and what the business already controls.

Change a line yourself

Imagine your opening hours change tomorrow. Sign in with your own account, update the hours in a preview and restore the previous version. Where does the text live? Who can publish a change? Can you undo a mistake by the next provider?

Next, open the domain registrar’s account. Find the renewal date and recovery address. If confirmation still goes to the previous provider’s personal phone, there is more to hand over.

The handover pack

Collect the working files, original images and license details. Add a short guide to renewing the domain, publishing an update and finding a verified copy. Store passwords and recovery codes separately. Months later, the next specialist should be able to carry on from this pack.

Keeping data safe

Backups and a clear recovery process

Project story

Worked example

If you sync working files between devices, deleting a file can sync that deletion too. You can test how well your files are protected using a single set of documents.

Choose what you’ll need tomorrow

Take a live project folder with its main document and attachments. Decide how much work you could afford to redo after a failure. That helps determine how often to back up. Keep a copy somewhere separate from the everyday sync.

Restore and open

Restore the chosen documents to a separate folder so the working files stay intact. Open the main document and its attachments and check the version. Turn those steps into a short guide. If something fails, you will know where to look and how to tell whether you can carry on.

Living and working in Spain

An individual plan covering eligibility, documents and next steps

Project story

Worked example

Wanting to stay in Spain and work is a goal. To plan the paperwork, start with your current circumstances. On what basis are you living in Spain now, and how do you intend to work?

Where to start

Collect the details of your current status, the expiration dates of your documents and your work plans. Then look at the procedures that might fit and check their requirements against your circumstances. This matters particularly if you are considering a move from temporary protection to another status.

What to prepare

For the route you have chosen, make a working list. What will you need to prove? Which documents do you already have? What do you still need to request, and in what order? You have a practical plan for the file and a record of the questions that still need checking.

A professional profile

A résumé and profile that show what your experience is worth

Project story

Worked example

An experienced person’s résumé readily shows years and job titles. What a reader really wants to know is which work they can trust that person to do. One well-chosen project can answer that.

Your own contribution

“I helped with the launch” leaves too much to the imagination. What part did you own? What decision did you make? What did you hand over to colleagues? Choose a detail you can substantiate that matters for the role you want.

What belongs on the résumé

The short version needs only your role and the outcome. A professional profile gives you room for context. A cover letter connects that experience to a specific job. Each document serves a different purpose, and the reader recognizes the same person in all three.
